Teach In Thailand

Have you ever thought of teaching English overseas?  If so, why not consider teaching in Thailand ?

It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, this a wonderful opportunity to experience another culture, to travel the world or just to teach in a different environment.

English, Math, Science, Modified Physical Ed / Outdoor Ed., Social Studies, Computer Science, Library, Phonics and Music teachers, needed throughout the year to teach from Kindergarten up to Grade 12

Thailand is an amazingly diverse country, where you’ll find some of the world’s most beautiful islands with white sandy beaches and crystal clear water, and rice fields stetching for miles on end ….to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok,  a vibrant lively city with high-rise sky scrapers, numerous restaurants, bars, clubs, colourful markets, street vendors and plenty of food stalls, all open till the early hours of the morning – truly the city that never sleeps!

Bangkok is a very cosmopolitan city and has a big expat community.  Life is pretty hassle free and laidback, living and teaching there is far less demanding compared to other countries in Asia , where there are fewer foreigners and because of language and cultural differences even everyday chores can become extremely difficult.

Shopping in the “city of angels” is superb, you can wander around for hours on end through busy shopping centres and markets.  Where you’ll find anything from the most modern gadget in a trendy shopping mall, to a half dead sting ray in a plastic bag at the weekend market.

Thai food is very tasty, although it can be a bit too spicy for some, but with Bangkok being so cosmopolitan you’ll find almost every other cuisine imaginable.

If the hustle and bustle of the busy streets gets to you, there is no better way to end off a hectic day of shopping than with a relaxing foot or Swedish oil massage at one of the many spas or massage parlors found on almost every street corner.

Public transport is extremely efficient and you can go almost anywhere in the country and neighbouring countries with very little effort.

The weather in Thailand is typically hot and humid almost all year round, but during December and November it does cool down a bit, thankfully most places are air-conditioned, although the Northern part of the country is considerably cooler.

But even paradise isn’t perfect,  life in the busier cities can be hard to cope with if you have any moral standards, a very high percentage of people travelling to Thailand are “sex tourist” or foreign men on “business trips” so prostitution is almost everywhere you go and it can get a bit much at times.  Fortunately however, there are also a number of English speaking churches where you can escape from the decadence.

There is an ever increasing demand for English teachers, with numerous universities, kindergartens, public, private, international and language schools all over Thailand always looking for foreign teachers.

Unlike most other Asian countries, a North American or Canadian accent is not preferred thus making it a lot easier for South Africans to manage.

Thai children are very loving, obedient and respectful and always like to have fun while studying, so at least there will be someone to cheer you up when you’re missing the crime back home.

Foreign teachers get about 35 000 to 60 000 bath (R 8 000.00 to R14 000) a month, if you teach at one school, but u can quite easily double that if you teach evenings and weekends.  The average Thai salary is between 6 000 and 15 000 bath per month so comparatively you can maintain a very high standard of living; go out, shop lots, eat out everyday, travel locally and internationally, and even save a little on a salary of about 35 000 bath

Most schools offer accommodation and if they don’t they will assist you in finding a suitable place.
